ANCIENT MESSAGES: BUY THE BOOK $17.95 Artephius (AD 200-1119). This is no typographical error. It was written that Artephius lived almost one-thousand years. Artephius was also known as Apollonius of Tyana and possibly the Arabic poet and alchemist Al “Toghari” who died around AD 1119. He wrote "The Secret Book." A well known supporter of Hermetic philosophy who is said to have died in the early 12th century, and declared to have lived a thousand years by means of alchemical secrets. Francois Pic mentioned that in opinions of certain servant Artephius was identical with Apollonius of Tyana, who was born in the first century by that name and died in the 12th as Artephius. Many extravagant and curious works are said to have been written by Artephius: "De Vita Propaganda (The Art of Prolonging Life)" which he comments in the preface that he is writing it when 125 years old; "The Key to Supreme Wisdom"; a book on the character of the planets; a book on the significance of the songs of birds; on things of past and future; and on the Philosopher’s Stone. A neo-Pythagorean of Greece who acquired a reputation for his magical powers. He is considered a contemporary of Christ. Francis Barrett claimed him to be ‘one of the most extraordinary persons that ever appeared in the world.’ Born at Tyana, in Asia Minor, he was educated at Tarsus, and at the Temple of Aesculapius at Aegae, where at sixteen he became an adherent of Pythagoras whose discipline he ascribed to all of his life. He died during the second century AD. In his desire for knowledge he traveled many Eastern countries and according to legend he performed miracles where ever he went. One legend has it that an Indian magician made seven rings representing the seven planets and presented them to Apollonius who wore a different one each day. It is said this enabled him to maintain his youthful vigor well into old age. He is reputed to have lived to be one thousand years old. Apollonius’ death is a mystery. According to some he fell out of favor with Emperor Severu, who put him on trial and had his hair cut off to eliminate his magical powers.
